Nursing profession bad because we are primarily females?
Interesting article today about how nursing will never improve because we are mostly females.
and until there are more males in the profession ,nothing will change.
Nurses fall into several catagories 1) Co-dependent- they get their recognition by helping others, serving others, waiting on others2.) Bitches/Bastards-They get their recognition by belittling others ,bossing others, backstabbing. 3.) Desperate -had to have a job that paid fairly well to support their family 4.)Delusional-Were fooled into thinking it was a beautiful calling
with respect and dignity
Male nurses would not be treated the way females are and so this would in turn cause there to be more respect for nursing in general if there were more males in the profession. This is probably true in all workplaces but especially in Nursing.
Male nurses are treated better than female nurses. I know they start out making more money for the same job and they pass on as much as they can to the female nurses.I have had a male nurse try to get me to cath patients for him (didn't matter if they were male or female pts.)My answer was always F... you ! Most male nurses want to be treated like they are Drs and give orders. But,since this is a profession that many males do not want to pursue,I guess changes
will continue to be slow in coming. Laws sit in congress growing fungus for changes in nursing
but how seriously are we taken?

RESPECT FOR ALL HEALTHCARE WORKERS
I posted an article today about how CNAS hate being called aides. (See article below)
Certified Nursing Assistants work hard for residents. No nursing facility could make it without them. I have a great group of CNAS at the facility that I work in and they are the main reason I make it through the shift. There are some bad CNAS just like there are some bad Nurses everywhere but when you have good ones and see how much lugging and tugging, feeding, cleaning etc they do in one shift it is amazing! Respect is past due for CNAS.I call them by their name and I try to always be respectful although at times in a stressful situation I may come across a little bossy.I started out as a tech and still remember how I hurt at the end of my shift.( no CNA titles that long ago LOL) I try to advocate for all healthcare workers and will continue to do any way I can.

3-11 at the nursing home
Another horendous night at the nursing home where I work. Three admits,0ne copd,o2,abdominal distention because of no bm since the 22nd!. The nurse at the hospital said the Dr. was aware of this but discharged her anyway! After all,it was New Years Eve for Pete's sake ,he probably had a party to get to. So,I had to start trying to blow her out with 60cc of MOM every four hours. Meanwhile, my other 2 admits--oh,God! One had fallen face first at home and she looked like someone had beat her. She would not stay seated and I had to pull her wheelchair with me to give my meds. Why didn't a tech watch her you might ask? Because we were short staffed and they were in rooms taking care of other residents. We have 102 residents at my nursing home and we had 6 techs to take care of them. I have 30-31 on my unit when it is full. I am full at present. My number three admit was also a fall risk and combative. So,I had 2 to try to keep her safe while I tried to give medicines, chart, and take care of other residents needing prn pain meds and a dozen other things going on ,by pulling #2 resident along up to #3 resident and getting her to sit back down! I was ready to scream!. I did sling a chair down the hall out of frustration. Trying to do a good job, keep residents alive and safe and handle what your techs are doing is impossible. The Dept heads do nothing to help on the floor. They sit in their chairs and tell you to go do things.Yet,in orientation they tell you that they all get out on the floor and help. This is all too much for one person to bear.I fear I will stroke out on the floor and become a resident there. If I can crawl to my car and stuff a rag in the exhaust pipe I will do that before going into any nursing home .
